Josh. Nice work Im taking the PF matchit class at FXPHD. its my first time using matchmoving software and I was curious how to get my tracks into C4D this is extremely helpful. keep up the good work.. thanks.
I did have a question… what is CD coordinates, is that built into C4D or is that a plugin? and my stupid questions for the day is are why / how did you know you needed to change the Y to 3.148?
thanks again. looking forward to seeing more

Hello Ronn, thanks a lot for the comment. I’m glad you found it useful. I plan to have a lot more tutorials :). Yes, CD coordinates is a plugin found in this package http://www.cactus3d.com/CDTransfer.html.

I measured the camera height on set. The measurement was about 3.08 feet. So a scale of 3.148 feet at the beginning of the move was a suitable scale. You can figure out scaling a few other ways too like inputting a distance between measured trackers on set. I have to have some more info on this process soon. Along with a workflow for SynthEyes 2011.

Like I said PFMatchit is my first real MM software and Ive heard great things about Synth Eyes.. Seems like Synth Eyes is more around my budget. Would you recommend going the Snytheyes way? or just sticking it out with PFMatchit?

Hi Ronn, sorry for the late reply. I’ve been really busy at work and been traveling for holidays. Personally I think having both is a really great option at this point but I can understand not wanting to spend that much money. It’s hard for me to pick one over the other. Currently, I have a lot more experience with using SynthEyes and thus it’s my favorite tracker but the more I use PFMatchit the more I like it. I think it’s particularly shines with manual control and for that reason I think it’s invaluable. Sorry I don’t have a more clear answer. My best advice is to download the SynthEyes 2011 demo and give a test drive.

Wow, pretty cool tutorial. I’ve never even heard of PFmatchit, but I use C4D and AE all the time. I’ll have to look into it!

Thanks for the comment. PFmatchit came out about a month ago so it’s pretty new. I use SynthEyes a lot as well. Soon I will have a SynthEyes version of this tutorial.

Well done! I would like to see more in the future! What do you specialize in?

    • Josh on Oct 14, 2010 Reply

Thanks for the comment. More tutorials are coming for sure. Well often I work as a VFX and Motion GFX generalist. I would say my specialty is matchmoving and compositing.
